VIOLENCE PREVENTION

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

ORCC believes it is critical to provide effective sexual violence prevention education and information to the community and offers the following Violence Prevention Educational Programs to schools, churches, employers, professional organizations, civic clubs and other organizations at no cost.

Personal Safety - Appropriate for youth in grades K-6. This program discusses telephone safety, safety tips while home alone, safe touches vs. unsafe touches, bullying, building positive self-esteem, refusal skills, and how to help a friend.

Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention - Appropriate for youth in grade 7 through adult and is slightly modified for different ages. This program discusses sexual assault statutes, myths concerning rape, the effects of sexual violence on a victim, what to do if someone has been sexually assaulted, red flags of dangerous relationships, and date rape drugs. Safety tips and resource information are offered throughout program.

Expect Respect - Appropriate for youth in grades 6-12. This is a school based program and covers the topics of dating violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, healthy relationships, and bullying.

Basic Safety Tips - Appropriate for all ages. This program discusses basic everyday safety tips, including car safety, home safety, dating safety, what to do in case of physical confrontation and tips to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

Sexual Harassment - Appropriate for all ages. This program defines sexual harassment and discusses behaviors that constitute sexual harassment. Effects of sexual harassment on victims and steps to fight and report sexual harassment are provided. A separate program on Sexual Harassment in the Workplace is available for Management Personnel which includes information on conducting internal investigations of sexual harassment complaints.

Dangerous Relationships - Appropriate for youth in grade 7 through adult. This program discusses the different types of abuse; emotional, physical, and sexual, healthy vs. unhealthy relationships, red flags of a dangerous relationship, and steps to end an unhealthy relationship.

Internet Safety - Separate program for Youth and Adults. This program discusses cyber crime and how sexual predators use the internet to victimize others. The dangers of chat rooms and meeting people online are discussed with real examples given to the audience. Safety tips are given and parents are encouraged to monitor what their children are doing on the internet.

Drugs, Club Drugs and Sexual Assault: The Real Deal - Appropriate for youth in grade 7 through adult. This program discusses drug facilitated rape; the risk associated with Rave parties and includes factual information about the effects of these so called "safe" drugs. Prevention and Safety tips are provided. Drugs covered include, alcohol, Rohypnol, GHB, ecstasy, Ketamine, and methamphetamine.

Arkansas Sexual Assault Statutes - Appropriate for all ages. This program discusses the Sexual Assault Statutes in Arkansas, statistics, and the penalties for commission of these crimes.

The Men's Program - Appropriate for adult males. This program was developed by John Foubert, Ph.D. at the University of Virginia based on his doctoral research and has been evaluated and proven effective in changing attitudes and beliefs about sexual violence. The program builds empathy for victims by teaching men how to help women recover from rape, while challenging men to change their own behavior and influence others.
